This world is ours: resist, Reclaim, Rise Up for System Change!
The People’s Climate Summit have developed a series of demands for the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice during COP31.
Against wars and militarisation, from the genocides in Palestine, Sudan, and Congo, to every conflict zone in the world, we stand for an immediate end to the wars that slaughter people, drive greenhouse gas emissions and devastate ecosystems. We demand disarmament, the peoples’ right to self-determination, and a just and lasting peace.
Against the exploitation of fossil fuels, responsible for more than 80 percent of global emissions and whose continued expansion puts 1.5°C out of reach; against nuclear energy and “green” extractivism; and against the false solutions, from speculative carbon capture to empty pledges, that are dangerous distractions from the real solutions already available at scale: we demand energy democracy, in which energy is organized publicly, locally and democratically, accessible and diverse.
Against the big agrifood system, which causes the destruction of biodiversity and food crises, we defend traditional and Indigenous knowledge, agroecology, local seeds, small producers, and food sovereignty, in which peoples own their food systems and decide what to produce and how.
Against ecosystem destruction, we demand the recognition of the rights of rivers, oceans, forests, land, soil, animals and all ecosystems; the recognition of ecocide as a crime; an end to false solutions and to the commodification of land, nature and our commons; and accountability from the corporations and states that destroy nature.
Demands
- End war and militarisation.
- End the genocides in Palestine, Sudan and the Congo.
- End wars of aggression, occupation, and militarisation that sustain fossil fuel dependence. Stop Israel bonds and divest from war and military spending that divert public resources from climate action.
- Halt fossil fuel extraction in territories under colonial occupation and cease fossil fuel transfers that enable genocide, war crimes, and illegal occupation.
- End fossil fuels.
- End fossil fuel expansion. No new approvals, licenses, permits, infrastructure, exports, or extensions for the fossil fuel industry. No new finance–public or private–for coal, oil, and gas. Halt Big Tech’s build-out of new fossil-fueled and nuclear-powered data centres.
- Phase out all existing fossil fuel infrastructure, aligned with the goals of keeping temperature rise below 1.5C and reaching global real zero emissions by 2050. Phaseout timelines must differ according to the principles of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities and Equity, with the Global North phasing out first and fastest.
- A direct and just transition to 100% renewable energy, with sufficient, affordable, and reliable access for all. Prioritise publicly and community-owned distributed energy systems. Protect the rights of Indigenous Peoples, Afro-Descendants and affected communities, including the right to Free, Prior, and Informed Consent.
- Deliver public, non-debt-creating climate finance to the Global South and ensure that coal, oil, and gas corporations deliver full reparations for climate loss and damage, as well as for local rehabilitation, remediation, and transition.
- End Big Agriculture.
- Phase out unsustainable and industrial agriculture.
- Dismantle feudal and corporate land and water monopolies. End feudal and corporate capture of our food systems.
- Redistribute land and water resources to farmers, peasants, fisherfolk, and agricultural workers. Transition to democratic ownership and management of seed, land, and water.
- Prioritize staple food for domestic needs through climate-resilient, agro-ecological food production, distribution, and storage.
- Fully decarbonise food systems through agro-ecological land and water use and 100% renewable energy for food production, preparation, and processing.
- End environmental destruction.
- Stop promoting and financing false solutions, such as carbon markets and offsets, carbon capture and storage, ammonia co-firing, and geoengineering. Stop promoting false “clean energy”, including nuclear power, destructive hydropower, and large-scale biofuels.
- End the commodification of land and nature. End all food, land, and water speculation in commodities markets.
- Enforce the ICJ advisory opinion. Make rich polluters pay full reparations for climate harm and environmental destruction.
