Exposing False Solutions on Land and Water: decolonizing climate action
This session will highlight the dangers of False Solutions to climate change. These encompass proposals such as so-called Nature-based Solutions, 30×30 and the expansion of hydroelectric dams. These are diversions from real solutions, such as burning less fossil fuel. They are unjust because they will lead to greater human rights violations, loss of land, destruction of Indigenous territories, and ultimately further climate breakdown. You will hear from Indigenous Peoples and activists from the Global South about the impacts of these False Solutions on their lands and ways of life. By the end of this event we hope you will have a better understanding of why these easy sounding fixes are actually false solutions, that create devastating harm and dangerously squander our last chance to secure a pathway to 1.5˚C.
