Trauma and Resilience: a training for activists
Unfortunately this event has been cancelled.
Many people involved in socially engaged work – environmental activism, human rights defenders, and political organising – encounter situations which can be traumatising. Existing within the conditions of post colonial patriarchal capitalism also impacts us in many different ways, depending on our identities and experiences. Learning to work with these experiences is key to creating resilient cultures for social and environmental change.
An inability to identify and transform individual and group patterning associated with these issues is a common source of burnout, conflict and dysfunction in our groups and organisations. As such, addressing trauma is a political issue. Knowing how to work well with trauma, to transform, mitigate and grow beyond it, can be crucial for the longevity of our activism, our groups and for our own wellbeing and flourishing.
This session will offer the skills and experience to increase your capacity to respond usefully to trauma and explore questions such as:
What do we think Trauma is? How do we recognise it? How can we work with our own symptoms and patterns? What do we need in place so that our groups and organisations can work well with trauma, support each other adequately, and build a more resilient culture?
During the session, we will use a virtual whiteboard, which you can familiarise yourself by exploring this trial version: https://app.conceptboard.com/board/1sbm-y2a6-ypax-7i95-ty2g During the session itself we will send a different link for you to follow.
