Resistance from below to territorial dispossession and destruction in the Amazon

What are the threats facing the Amazon and how are Amazonian Peoples organisingto defend their collective territories, rights and futures? Join this session to learn from
and exchange with community leaders from Brazil, Peru and Guyana about their
struggles to protect their forests, lands and waters against land invasions,
agribusiness, illegal logging and mining, narcotics expansion, oil and gas extraction,
infrastructure megaprojects and exclusionary colonial conservation projects.
The session aims to create a platform for voices of the Amazon region to share their
experiences of the assaults on their land, culture and lives as well as the resistance
they are offering to invasive extractivist projects. Through a process of sharing and
then dialogue with the audience, the session seeks to create a better understanding
of what is at stake in Amazonia right now and develop solidarity for these struggles
which are part of the climate justice struggle.
